Peak Carpentry & Building was delighted to be involved in creating the David Brownlow Theatre on the grounds of Horris Hill School in Berkshire. This sustainable building was designed to blend in with its rural surroundings and was originally conceived by the London-based architectural firm Jonathan Tuckey Design in 2016. As official joiners on the project, the natural materials we worked with included cross-laminated timbers, engineered wood, and Viroc wood fibre panelling.
The theatre was named one of the Top 10 British Architecture Projects of 2021 by the architecture and design magazine, Dezeen. It was shortlisted for the 2021 Wood Awards, where it was highly commended in the Education & Public Sector category. It was also nominated in the Small Project of the Year 2021 category of that year’s Building Awards.
The project has now been shortlisted for the 2023 RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) South Awards.
